Research Overview

Cavell's research practice was founded in 2005 (under the name of illume) to help companies dealing with the issue of rapidly changing telecoms, technology and media markets. Cavell is particularly well known for its research around Future Voice, being the go to source for Data on SIP Trunking and Hosted VoIP markets

"If you were on TV and in the Who Wants to Be A Millionaire hot seat with Chris Tarrant having just asked you a question on SIP trunks there would be no doubt who my phone a friend would be – Matt Townend of illume research" - Comms Business Magazine

Cavell’s main research focus is new market opportunities presented by the adoption of next generation network technologies, namely Future Voice services such as Hosted UC, SIPT and IPX. Previous bespoke research has also covered Future Network and Future City technologies, including CDN, SDN and Mobile Data. Based on practical knowledge and strong supply side relationships, Cavell’s research combines comprehensive modelling and research techniques to provide a unique market picture.

illume was founded by Matthew Townend out of disappointment with market reports just offering '30,000 foot views'. Part of Cavell since 2012, illume has researched the SIP and Hosted VoIP market for over 12 years, publishing biannual reports based on data from direct visits to Service Providers.

This means that Cavell can offer practical advice and research based on interactions with people in the industry who work with markets at the deepest level, often helping clients build relationships with new partners and customers, often offering comments for press articles, and regularly speaking and hosting industry events.
